The Osaka Integrated Resort (IR) project, widely seen as a game-changer for the international casino industry, has completed its initial civil engineering work and entered the phase of building the main superstructure as of August 2026. This project marks Japan's first casino-integrated resort initiative, centered on developing a large-scale tourism complex on Yumeshima, an artificial island in Osaka Bay.
Construction Progress and Major Facility Plans
The Osaka IR project is a massive undertaking that combines not only casino facilities but also international conference centers, exhibition spaces, luxury hotels, and shopping malls. According to recent announcements from the Osaka Prefectural government, the construction of the resort following the 2025 Expo is proceeding according to plan. Operators stated that the framework construction for the main buildings will become visible from the second half of 2026. This project is interpreted as a strategic move to drastically improve Japan's tourism infrastructure and maximize the attraction of foreign visitors.
