The construction of the Osaka Integrated Resort (IR) in Japan, which is expected to change the landscape of the international casino industry, is now in full swing. As of August 2026, it has been confirmed that the resort, located on the artificial island of Yumeshima in Osaka, has completed its foundation work and is seeing its main structural framework rise, with total construction progress exceeding 15%. This project is Japan's first integrated resort to include a casino, with the primary goals of attracting tourists and revitalizing the local economy.
Construction progress and site trends
Currently, the Osaka IR site is seeing the sequential construction of hotels, convention centers, and designated casino areas designed to accommodate millions of annual visitors. The Japanese government and the operators are maximizing construction efficiency by utilizing infrastructure secured during the 2025 Osaka-Kansai Expo. Notably, the project strictly adheres to regulations limiting the casino facility to less than 3% of the total resort area, with a significant emphasis placed on non-gaming sectors—such as shopping, performances, and exhibitions—that can be enjoyed by family-oriented tourists.
