The Osaka Integrated Resort (IR) project in Japan, expected to reshape the landscape of the international casino market, is yielding tangible results as of August 2026. Osaka Prefecture and the City of Osaka recently announced the completion of foundation work on the Yumeshima site and have commenced detailed design and construction preparations for the upper structures. As the first integrated resort in Japan, this project is designed as a large-scale tourism hub encompassing not only casino facilities but also international conference halls, exhibition centers, and large-scale lodging facilities.
Infrastructure Construction and Project Status
Currently, the Yumeshima area in Osaka is undergoing large-scale land development alongside the expansion of transportation infrastructure, such as the subway line extension. According to the local construction industry, the core structural work for the main resort building is scheduled to begin in the second half of 2026, with thousands of personnel deployed to the site. Osaka authorities emphasize that this project is a strategic choice to leap forward as a center for the Asian tourism market, going beyond merely attracting casino facilities. In particular, they are focusing on addressing local residents' concerns by implementing sustainable construction methods that prioritize environmental protection and regional coexistence.
