The Osaka Integrated Resort (IR) project in Japan, considered a game-changer for the international casino industry, is showing steady progress as of August 2026. The Osaka municipal government and the operator consortium have completed ground improvement and infrastructure work on the artificial island of Yumeshima and are now preparing for the construction of the main structures.
Large-scale investment and infrastructure construction
Beyond a simple casino facility, this project is designed as a comprehensive cultural space encompassing international conference centers (MICE), hotels, and theme parks. Osaka IR Co., Ltd. stated in a recent report that it aims to attract over 20 million visitors annually. In particular, the focus is on expanding entertainment facilities integrated with cutting-edge digital technology to leap forward as a tourism hub for the Asia-Pacific region. Local industry insiders expect this investment to contribute significantly to revitalizing Japan's domestic economy and creating jobs.
