The Osaka Integrated Resort (IR) project, currently the biggest topic in the international casino industry, is showing tangible progress as of August 2026. The Osaka municipal government and the operator consortium announced that ground reinforcement work on the artificial island of Yumeshima has been completed, and foundation work for the superstructure is currently underway. This marks the entry into the practical construction phase following years of legal discussions and environmental impact assessments.
Construction site trends and infrastructure development
Osaka authorities are demonstrating their commitment to successfully establishing the first casino-integrated resort in Japan. Large-scale heavy machinery has been deployed to the site, and work is being conducted in parallel on subway line extensions and road network expansions that will connect to the resort. The Japanese government expects this project to become the core of the MICE industry, combining international conference halls, exhibition centers, and luxury hotels beyond being a simple casino facility.
